Lighting for darkroom?

Post  Chrisj2004 on 4/9/2011, 6:30 am

I was wondering if you can tell me what sort of light I should be using in my darkroom? Manufacture names and part numbers would be great.

Hey Chris,
All you need is a yellow buglight (just look in any store with bulbs). You can even use red or yellow paint on a normal bulb: You just need to allow it to burn off for a few minutes the first time you use it. All you're trying to do is block the UV that is emitted from a normal lightbulb. That's it!. You also don't need a complete dark room like you do with film. I believe Z28KID closes his bathroom shade and leaves a hall light on or something like that to eliminate direct light when he is coating a screen. I just block my garage window with a big towel and turn on my buglight.

Correct, you can have little to some light in the "dark room" it does not need to be pitch black by any means. You can use this light http://www.homedepot.com/buy/lighting-fans/light-bulbs/feit-electric/13-watt-yellow-bug-twist-60-watt-equivalent-39116.html from home depot, I used to leave my hallway light on with my bathroom door cracked open. Now I have that light above in one of these http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-Electrical-Tools-Accessories-Work-Lights/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbm8p/R-100354511/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
